この冬はいつにも増して雨が多かったが、それでも、いつものように春はやってきた。
そして四月にやらなきゃならん庭仕事もある。

It's been a very wet winter this year, but spring is here and as usual here are a few of the jobs I have to get done in April.

まずはこの時期から、雑草のコントロールをせにゃならん。スイセンやチューリップが花を咲かせる頃には、雑草も目を覚ますからのう。早めに捕まえておけば、後々の荷が軽くなるというものじゃ。
お腹の空いたシュラブ(灌木）たちに栄養を与えることもその一つ。アジサイたちシュラブ類もたくさんの芽を出してきているから、成長を助けてやるんじゃ。

Keep weeds under control. When the daffodils and tulips are in bloom the weeds wake up! Catching them early helps ease the burden later in the year.
Feed hungry shrubs. My hydrangeas and other shrubs have lots of new growth. Giving them my favorite fertiliser will stimulate the growth.

それから、うちの飼い犬のハーレー。

かわいい犬じゃが、朝早くの散歩ができないときには、庭の芝生で用を足してしまう。
芝生がだめになってしまったところが何か所もあるから、芝の種を播かねばならん。

Repair bare patches in the lawn. Harley, my lovely dog uses the lawn if he doesn't go for a walk early enough. There are lots a bare patches to add seed to.

英国人はトマトが大好きで、温室があるとよく育つ。月初めにはトマトの種まきをしてシーズンに備える。

Tie in climbing and rambling roses and feed.
We grow a lot of our plants from seed and at this time of the year we can plant hardy annuals and herb seeds dirctly into the garden.
We love tomatoes and they grow very well in England especially if you have a glasshouse. I sow my tomato seeds (Early in the month) and prepare for the tomato growing season.
