今日、ぼくはウィルシャー州チッピンハム近くの、アーリントンにある、17世紀のマナーハウス、ボールハイド・マナー（Bolehyde Manor)を訪ねた。　
コッツウォルズの南の端あたりに位置している、このマナーハウスのガーデンは、毎年、たった一日の、それも3時間だけ公開されているんだ！
1973年に、今はチャールズ皇太子の夫人になったカミラ・パーカー・バウレスが移り住んだことでも知られているんだよ。

Today I visited Bolehyde Manor, a 17th-century manor house at Allington, near Chippenham, in Wiltshire. It is on the southern edge of the Cotswolds.This private garden is open one day every year for only 3 hours! Camilla Parker Bowles moved into the manor in 1973.

ここのベジタブル・ガーデンは、かつてチャールズがダイアナ・スペンサーに結婚を申し込んだ場所だという噂があるんだが、本当かな。

Its vegetable garden was rumoured to be the location of Prince Charles' proposal of marriage to Lady Diana Spencer.

ベジタブルガーデンの周りはユニークなツゲの刈り込んだ生垣になっている。

It's a little unusual to see the box hedging in a vergetable garden.

高い石の塀は、クライミングローズには完璧なステージだね。

The high stone wall is perfect for climbing roses.

庭の花は、満開には早いけど、色にあふれていたよ。

The garden was full of colour, but not yet in full bloom.

広い庭の一角で見つけたロバのヘンリーは、長年連れ添ったパートナーを失ったばかり。　
ヘンリーは30才だけど、この週末に死んだパートナーは50才を超えていたそうだよ！
悲しいことに、ヘンリーはもう少ししたら、ドンキー・サンクチュアリ（年老いたドンキーが行くところ）に移されるんだって。

Henry the donkey has lost his long term partner. Henry is over 30 and his partner who was over 50 died this weekend.

Sadly Henry will be sent to the Donkey Sanctuary, wherre he will be with new friends.
