イングリッシュガーデンというと、バラを思い浮かべることが多いんだけど、庭を美しく見せるには庭を取り囲む建築物という要素が大きく影響する。　
キルヴァー・コート(Kilver Court)は、英国で有名なドリンク　ベイビーチャム(Babycham)の工場だったんだよ。　
この街には鉄道が敷かれていたんだけど、この敷地内を通り抜ける大きな高架橋があった。　
今ではもうここを列車が通ることはないけどね。

キルヴァー・コートのシークレットガーデン(秘密の花園）にはミル・ポンド、パーテア(刺繍花壇）、草本のボーダー、ロックガーデン、そして高架橋がある。　
庭自体は100年前に創られたものだけど、ベイビーチャムのオーナー達によって1960年台に修復されたそうだよ。

When we imagine English gardens roses are often in our mind, but one of the things that makes our gardens look beautiful is the old architecture around or in the gardens. Kilver Court was a the home of a famous English drink called Babycham. In this town the railway line ran through and inKilver Court there is a very big viaduct. The trains don't cross this bridge anymore.

In the Secret Gardens of Kilver Court there is millpond, parterre, herbaceous borders, rockeries and the Viaduct. The garden was created 100 years ago and renovated by the Babycham owners in the 1960's.

この高架橋が、工場とほかの部分の境界のような働きをしている。

The bridge acts as one boundary and the Babycham factory as the other.

水の要素は庭の大切な要素。川の流れはミルポンドへと流れ込む。

Water is a key element in the garden as the landscpaed river runs through the garden into the millpond.
